Rolls-Royce Paints the Universe: Cullinan Cosmos Transports Passengers to the Milky Way

Rolls-Royce has long been known for its “Starlight Headliner,” a ceiling that mimics a glittering night sky with thousands of fibre-optic points. But with the new Cullinan Cosmos, the marque has taken celestial indulgence far beyond twinkling LEDs, turning the cabin into something closer to a private observatory than a luxury SUV.

Unveiled as a bespoke one-off, the Cullinan Cosmos earns its name quite literally. The commission came from a father who wanted to gift his four-year-old son, an ardent admirer of the cosmos, a symbolic tribute in the form of a Rolls-Royce. The result is the most cosmic expression of the brand’s craft to date.

Instead of merely puncturing the roof liner with light sources, Rolls-Royce added an entirely hand-painted Milky Way—dubbed the Mystical Galaxy—woven seamlessly into the Starlight canopy. One of the marque’s in-house artists devoted more than 160 hours and over twenty layers of paint to create the vast celestial panorama, each brushstroke layered with painstaking precision. Only after the painting was complete were the fibre-optic perforations drilled, adding constellations of shimmering stars. The brand remains discreet about how many lights were used, though previous projects have exceeded a thousand individual points.

The cosmic theme extends well beyond the ceiling. Interior hues, embroidery and material selections all echo astronomical motifs, ensuring that the Cosmos delivers not just a ride but a fully immersive celestial experience. This is no ordinary Cullinan; it is a journey into the heavens, a rolling sanctuary where luxury meets the infinite.
