Ram Revives the Dakota Name in South America with the Diesel-Powered Warlock

Ram is resurrecting the legendary Dakota nameplate for the South American market, introducing a pickup that’s anything but modest. With a ladder frame, diesel power, and rugged Warlock trim, this is a machine built to tackle both muddy pampas and urban grit with equal ease.

The new Dakota strengthens Ram’s footprint in South America. Built on Stellantis’ mid-size truck platform, which it shares with the Fiat Titano and Peugeot Landtrek, the Dakota stands apart through distinctive styling and a more refined interior. The cabin features a 12.3-inch touchscreen supported by 360-degree cameras, while the materials and layout create an impression that this truck isn’t just for hard work, but for everyday comfort too.

The range-topping Warlock version is designed for serious off-road use. It comes with 17-inch wheels wrapped in mud tyres, metal side steps, and a protective sports bar over the bed. The load bay offers more than 1,200 litres of capacity, and payload tops one tonne. Measuring 5,028 millimetres in length, the Dakota sits in the same league as the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger.

Under the bonnet lies a 2.2-litre Multijet diesel producing 200 horsepower and 450 newton-metres of torque. Power is channelled through an eight-speed automatic gearbox and a four-wheel-drive system with rear differential lock. There are four driving modes, including dedicated settings for snow and sand.

Production takes place in Argentina, with sales set to begin there and in Brazil. The model will not be sold in the United States, although Stellantis is reportedly developing a separate mid-size pickup for the North American market.

The Dakota Warlock shows that Ram is unafraid to draw on its 1980s roots and bring them boldly into the 21st century, keeping alive the spirit of strength and toughness that cares little for fuel prices or tarmac.
