Porsche Driver Clocked at 211 km/h Near Jūrmala Loses License for a Year
Late on a Friday night, while most people were easing into the weekend, one Porsche driver decided that speed limits were more of a suggestion than a rule. His dash toward Jūrmala lit up the radar with a figure so outrageous it almost felt embarrassed to display it: 211 km/h in a 110 zone. The result was inevitable—a painful fine, a yearlong break from driving and a stark reminder that velocity always comes at a price.
The incident unfolded just after 11 p.m., when Riga district patrol officers clocked the Porsche blasting down the highway at nearly double the posted limit. Such bravado on public roads leaves little doubt: the driver was gambling not only with his own life, but with everyone else’s.
Police swiftly intercepted the car. The penalty: a €1,400 fine and a one-year suspension of his driving license. No more throttle, no more highway sprints—just long walks and, one hopes, some overdue reflection.
Under Latvian law, exceeding the speed limit by more than 70 km/h can trigger fines of up to €2,000 and a license suspension of up to three years. In that sense, the Porsche driver might even consider himself lucky that his punishment stopped where it did.
