Peugeot 308 Refresh Brings New Dual-Clutch Gearbox, Longer EV Range and Sharper Design

The most notable technical upgrade is reserved for the plug-in hybrid. Gone is the old Aisin-sourced eight-speed automatic, replaced by a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission promising better fuel efficiency and sharper dynamics. Output has been raised by 15 horsepower, bringing the system to 195 hp, while a larger 17.2 kWh battery now powers it. As a result, the hybrid 308 can cover up to 85 kilometers in pure electric mode under WLTP testing.

The all-electric E-308 has also gained meaningful improvements. Its new 58.4 kWh battery extends range to 450 kilometers, up from the previous 415. The 156-horsepower electric motor runs on a 400-volt architecture, and fast charging from 20 to 80 percent takes just over half an hour.

Styling revisions are most evident at the front. The previous fang-shaped LED daytime running lights have been replaced with a sleeker, more aggressive signature. The grille adopts a frameless outline, and in higher trims Peugeot’s redesigned badge is now illuminated. At the rear and inside, changes are more restrained, limited largely to refreshed digital instrument graphics.

Engine choice in Europe remains varied. A 1.5-liter diesel with 130 horsepower is still available, but only with an automatic gearbox. Alongside the 195-hp plug-in hybrid, buyers can opt for a lighter 145-hp hybrid pairing a 1.2-liter petrol unit with a 48-volt electric motor, also integrated with the new dual-clutch transmission.

Sales of the refreshed 308 will begin in Europe this autumn.

Peugeot has unveiled an updated 308 line-up, covering both the estate-bodied SW and the classic hatchback. This is more than a cosmetic facelift: significant changes extend to the drivetrains and transmissions, with particular focus on the plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions.
