Opel’s electric Corsa GSE hot hatch does 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds
Opel unveiled the new Corsa GSE, which will become the fastest accelerating production model in the brand’s line up. The fully electric hatchback produces 207 kW, or 281 hp, reaches 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds and will make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show in October.
The new GSE version brings Opel’s small performance car tradition into the electric age. The badge stands for Grand Sport Electric, a name Opel also uses for the Mokka GSE.
The Corsa GSE’s electric motor produces the same 207 kW and 345 Nm as the Mokka GSE, but the lighter Corsa gets off the line more quickly. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h takes 5.5 seconds, while top speed is 180 km/h.
Three driving modes, one serious chassis
Drivers can choose between three modes. Sport unlocks full power. Normal reduces output to 170 kW, or 231 hp, while Eco puts efficiency first. In that setting, Opel also limits top speed to 150 km/h.
The battery has a gross capacity of 54 kWh, with 51 kWh usable. Opel has not yet published the official range, but says the battery’s thermal management was adapted for more demanding driving.
The Corsa GSE is not simply a regular Corsa with a stronger motor. It gets front wheel drive with a Torsen type limited slip differential, lowered sports suspension, new anti roll bars, model specific dampers and retuned steering and pedal response. Braking is handled by four piston hardware using Alcon components.
Electric speed without the luxury gloss
Visually, the GSE stands apart with a sportier front and rear design, a black roof, black rear spoiler, wider wheel arch detailing and 18 inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres. Inside, Opel fits sports seats with Alcantara details, yellow seatbelts, aluminium pedals and digital displays with performance data.
The Corsa GSE shows how Opel wants to carry the idea of the hot hatch into the electric car era. It does not chase the image of a luxury EV. Instead, it offers a small electric performance car where acceleration, chassis tuning and everyday practicality still belong in the same sentence.
Opel will release more details later. For now, the company stresses that all technical figures remain preliminary, as the car is not yet homologated or on sale.
