Nissan’s new electric SUV NX8 offers up to 1,450 km of range
Nissan unveiled the new mid-size NX8 SUV at the Beijing show. Developed by Dongfeng Nissan, the model targets the fiercely competitive Chinese NEV segment, offering both a battery electric (BEV) and a range-extended electric (REEV) powertrain. The price range is 159,900 to 209,900 yuan, about 20,500 to 26,900 euros.
Technical specifications and charging capability
NX8 is a 4,870 mm-long family SUV that sits above the Nissan Qashqai in terms of size. The model’s technical architecture supports modern charging standards.
Battery electric version, BEV: Top versions use an 800-volt system and 5C fast charging, enabling a 30 to 80% charge in 10 minutes. Maximum CLTC range is 650 km, with 73 to 81 kWh battery packs.
Range-extender version: A version in which the petrol engine acts as a generator. Electric range is up to 310 km, and combined range reaches 1,450 km on the CLTC cycle. Average fuel consumption in generator mode is 4.51 l/100 km.
Smart cabin and driver assistance
The vehicle’s equipment matches the Chinese market’s high expectations for digital solutions.
Hardware: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip and two 15.6-inch screens.
User interface: Nissan OS 2.0 with an AI voice assistant and a 63-inch AR head-up display.
Driver assistance systems: Software developed by Momenta supports NOA functions, Navigate on Autopilot, on both highways and in urban conditions.
Comfort: 773-litre luggage compartment, integrated refrigerator-heater box, and seats with a massage function.
The NX8 is part of Nissan’s global strategy that sees China as a development and export hub. The model competes directly with Chinese brands such as Li Auto and Xpeng, offering aggressive pricing and a high level of equipment.
Although Nissan says the model is aimed at selected global markets, sales in Europe have not been confirmed at this stage. Arrival in Europe would require homologation to WLTP standards and adjusted pricing to remain competitive against local premium electric cars.
