The new Nissan Navara steps into the spotlight, this time with an Australian accent

Nissan has unveiled the next generation Navara, and the first images already add a touch of intrigue. The resemblance to the Mitsubishi L200, also known as the Triton, is obvious to anyone with eyes, although Nissan insists this is a brand new chapter rather than a badge swap.

For Australia and New Zealand the Navara stands apart from its donor model mainly through its front end. A V shaped grille, Nissan’s familiar light signature and a locally tailored bumper give the truck a more dignified expression. Designers say the form of the bumper plastics hints at durability and practical strength. Each viewer can decide whether that message lands with conviction or feels a little theatrical.

The ladder frame vehicle receives new tuning from the Australian firm Premcar. Their engineers admit they tested conditions firsthand and repeatedly. The name already carries weight with local buyers and the guiding principle seems simple. If it works, leave it alone.

The Australian package revolves around a single diesel option. A 2.4 litre unit with 204 horsepower and 450 newton metres forms a powertrain suited to daily graft and moderate towing. A six speed automatic handles the shifts. The basic version uses an Easy 4WD system with a clutch and an electronically locked rear differential. Higher trims offer a Super 4WD setup with a Torsen unit and seven driving modes.

Standard equipment includes a seven inch instrument panel and a central display that measures nine inches. There is enough tech to feel current without forcing unnecessary digital clutter into a class that rarely asks for it.

The new Navara nudges the pickup market further toward a blend of suburban comfort and honest toughness. The shared platform with the Mitsubishi Triton signals a firm focus on cost efficiency, now a global norm in automotive development. Rivals remain close, most notably the Toyota Hilux with its established strength, yet this new chapter gives the Navara extra momentum through design choices and suspension tuning shaped directly for local needs.
