Two US Navy EA 18G Growler fighter jets collided in mid air on Sunday, 17 May 2026, during an air show at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho.

The crews of both aircraft managed to eject before the jets hit the ground and exploded. All crew members survived and were reported to be in stable condition. No one on the ground was injured.

The accident happened during a flight demonstration, roughly three kilometres from the air base. Organisers immediately cancelled the rest of the air show programme and closed off the area.

The US Navy opened an investigation into the incident, with the exact cause of the collision still unclear. For an event built on precision and control, the afternoon ended with a reminder that aviation keeps little room for either error or luck.
