The motorcycle season carried on into eternity for one rider in Russia, where a tragic accident cut short what should have been just another early-morning journey. On the outskirts of Yekaterinburg, he missed the warning signs of roadworks, the speed restrictions and the rerouted traffic, and rode straight into a dug-out trench.

With no other vehicles nearby and traffic flowing away from the scene, the crash went unnoticed until later. By then, the rider had already slipped beyond reach, leaving behind nothing but the stark reminder that on two wheels, even the smallest lapse can be unforgiving.
