Mitsubishi unveils the luxurious Elevance SUV with a two-berth trailer in Tokyo

At the Tokyo Mobility Show, Mitsubishi introduced something that feels both futuristic and nostalgic for the open road. The Elevance concept blends SUV practicality, living-room comfort, and boutique-hotel luxury into one travelling experience. Designed for long journeys and the growing world of glamping, it redefines what a leisure vehicle can be.

Step inside the Elevance and it looks less like a car, more like a minimalist lounge. The steering wheel retracts neatly into the dashboard when not in use, opening up the cabin and creating a social, uncluttered space. The 2+2+2 seating layout allows the front two rows to swivel and face each other, forming an impromptu lounge or workspace.

A full-width digital display stretches across the dashboard, showing feeds from exterior cameras and real-time driving data. Next to the driver sits a rotary selector that toggles between quiet all-electric cruising and a more robust hybrid mode.

A trailer built for glamping

Alongside the crossover, Mitsubishi showcased a matching trailer crafted in the same design language. Inside, it feels more boutique than basic. There’s a double bed, built-in storage, and softly lit alcoves that create a warm, hotel-like ambience. It’s intended for off-grid stays, though its comfort level is far closer to glamping than camping.

Hybrid power with an intelligent edge

The Elevance uses a hybrid four-motor system combining an internal combustion engine with three electric motors, one at the front and two at the rear. The setup works with Mitsubishi’s Super All Wheel Control system, promising traction and stability from city streets to mountain tracks.

Although the company didn’t release power or battery specifications, it hinted that the electric range should easily cover a full day’s journey, with enough energy left to run campsite amenities overnight.

The rise of the AI co-driver

Adding to its futuristic brief, the Elevance features an AI Co-Driver that learns the driver’s habits and preferences. It suggests routes based on mood, weather, and previous travel patterns, turning the car into something of a digital travel companion rather than a mere means of transport.

Mobility as a lifestyle

The Elevance signals a new direction for Mitsubishi’s design and strategy. It points towards self-sufficient, hybrid-based vehicles that offer as much pleasure standing still as they do in motion. While much of the industry talks about autonomy, Mitsubishi’s vision carries a touch of Japanese poetry: a car not only built to take you somewhere, but to invite you to stay and enjoy being there.
