All BMW M3 owners who want more attention from the police, here's your chance!
The E92-generation BMW M3 never lacked for drama, its naturally aspirated V8 already serving up one of the most evocative soundtracks in modern motoring. But for those who believe even that needs another notch on the volume dial, British exhaust specialist Milltek Sport now offers precisely that—complete with a button to switch between civility and outright hooliganism.
The 4.0-litre S65 V8 is the last of its kind in the M3 lineage, celebrated as much for its character as for its performance. Milltek has decided that such an icon deserves a fresh voice, introducing for the first time a valve-controlled cat-back system that lets owners toggle at will between “Quiet” and “Loud.”
The system is compatible with all body styles of the E9X generation—the E90 sedan, E92 coupé and E93 convertible. In Quiet mode, exhaust gases are routed through the silencers, toning down the bark for urban use. Flick the switch to Loud and the valves open wide, unleashing the full wail of the V8 with the kind of soundtrack more at home in YouTube drift compilations than suburban cul-de-sacs.
Visually, Milltek’s system strikes a bolder note than the factory setup. Twin outlets measure 80 mm, available in either polished stainless steel or a stealthy black finish. Everything is crafted from T304L stainless steel at Milltek’s Derby facility, with the company confidently claiming longevity beyond that of the cars themselves.
Behind the marketing flourish of “next-level soundtracks” and “engineering passion,” the proposition is straightforward. This is a chance for M3 owners to decide whether their car whispers discreetly past or bellows like a touring car warming up in the paddock. Either way, the E92 just became harder to ignore.
