Mercedes-Benz Retires the EQB and Sets Its Sights on a New Electric Era

As one chapter in Mercedes-Benz’s electric story comes to a close, another begins. The compact EQB, once a symbol of the brand’s early EV ambitions, is bowing out of production—clearing the stage for a new generation of vehicles shaped by sharper focus and bolder intent.

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that production of its small electric SUV, the EQB, will soon come to an end. The move follows the quiet phaseout of the EQE sedan and EQE SUV, marking a deeper strategic shift by the German automaker as it recalibrates its electric portfolio for the decade ahead.

The EQB last made headlines in 2023, when Mercedes introduced a subtle mid-cycle refresh. The model stayed true to its familiar, upright silhouette, yet engineers made meaningful updates under the skin. Power outputs still ranged from 190 to 292 horsepower, but the EQB adopted a revised 70.5 kWh battery designed to improve efficiency and range without altering the vehicle’s core character.

While the model has quietly disappeared from Mercedes-Benz’s official German website, American buyers can still place orders—for now. In the U.S., pricing starts at $53,050, or roughly €49,200, with customers able to choose between single- or dual-motor configurations, both using the same battery pack.

Industry analysts point to soft demand and Mercedes-Benz’s drive to rationalize its EV lineup as the key reasons behind the EQB’s exit. Yet this isn’t a retreat from electrification—far from it. The brand is preparing an expanded electric offensive, with the upcoming CLA EV leading a new family of models. Two fresh SUVs are expected to follow, one of which will likely step into the space soon to be vacated by the EQB.
