Mercedes-Benz has opened orders for its new GLC 400 4MATIC, the first fully electric version of its mid-size SUV. Initially available in a single specification, the model starts at €71,281, a figure that, according to the company, sits almost level with its petrol-powered counterpart.

The new electric GLC uses two motors delivering a combined 489 horsepower and all-wheel drive. A 94 kWh battery provides up to 715 kilometres of range under the WLTP cycle, placing it among the longest-legged SUVs in its class. With a high-speed charger, the car can recover enough energy for 303 kilometres in just ten minutes.

Familiar Luxury, Higher Tech

Visually and inside, the electric GLC continues the familiar Mercedes-Benz theme of understated luxury, though its technology has clearly taken a step up. Standard features include adaptive LED headlights, a panoramic roof, dual displays measuring 10.3 and 14 inches, heated seats, and automatic climate control.

Optional upgrades include the MBUX Superscreen with its expansive dashboard-wide display, a Burmester audio system, and massaging seats. Exterior options range from an illuminated grille to the AMG Line package, adding sportier styling and bespoke alloy wheels.

Design and Future Plans

The electric GLC shares visual cues with the Vision Iconic concept, unveiled earlier this month, including its illuminated front grille and sleek proportions.

Mercedes-Benz plans to expand the GLC electric line-up to five versions, with two additional variants expected by 2026. For now, the GLC 400 4MATIC stands as the flagship of a new generation: a luxurious, near-silent SUV that proves electric power no longer demands compromise in comfort or range.
