Mazda’s new electric flagship has made an impressive debut, scoring the top five-star rating in Euro NCAP’s latest round of crash tests.

In both adult and child occupant protection categories, the Mazda6e achieved 93 percent. Adult protection was particularly strong in side-impact tests, where the car earned maximum points. Even in the demanding side pole test, the protection of critical body regions remained good or adequate. A new-generation centre airbag helped prevent head injuries between front occupants, while redesigned head restraints at both front and rear seats effectively reduced whiplash in rear-end collisions.

Child safety performance mirrored that of adults. In frontal and side-impact tests using six- and ten-year-old dummies, the Mazda6e again achieved full marks. The installation of child restraint systems (CRS Installation Check) was rated flawless, and the car’s child presence detection system, which alerts the driver if children are left unattended in the vehicle, was praised for its reliability.

For vulnerable road users, the Mazda6e scored 74 percent. Pedestrian protection was generally good, while its autonomous emergency braking and lane support systems earned maximum points for detecting motorcyclists. The same technology helped avoid collisions with cyclists, and door sensors that warn occupants of approaching traffic when opening a door added an extra layer of safety.

In the safety assist category, the Mazda6e received a 77 percent rating. The full suite of ADAS systems performed flawlessly: emergency braking reacted swiftly, lane-keeping assistance corrected the course smoothly, and driver monitoring effectively detected fatigue or distraction. The speed assistance system also read and applied local speed limits with precision.

The result cements Mazda’s reputation for combining clean design with serious engineering. The 6e may be new to the electric arena, but it already sets a high benchmark for safety.
