Longbow Turns the Impossible into Routine: Electric Speedster Goes from Sketch to Reality in Six Months

Britain’s sports car scene just received a jolt of energy, literally. The Longbow Speedster, the first model from an ambitious young manufacturer, went from initial sketch to running prototype in just six months, a pace at least a year faster than the industry norm. The project embodies Longbow’s guiding principle, “Speed of Lightness.”

Longbow unveiled its Aesthetic Dynamic Demonstrator in London before clients and partners, presenting what it calls the world’s first Featherweight Electric Vehicle. This wasn’t the result of a lucky sprint, but of a deliberate rethink of automotive development. The company’s founders, veterans with over 15 years’ experience in electric-vehicle engineering, restructured the entire production cycle to cut the traditional 18-month development process to a third.

The Speedster’s platform and body were designed from scratch using aluminium, lightweight composites and a modular battery system that forms part of the car’s structure. The outcome is an open-top sports car weighing just 895 kilograms, capable of 0–100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and offering a WLTP range of up to 443 kilometres.

A Design of Two Worlds

Longbow’s Speedster deliberately straddles eras. The front end, curved and expressive, nods to Britain’s golden age of sports cars, while the rear section signals the modernity of an electric platform. The contrasting two-tone finish reinforces this dual personality — a fusion of heritage and innovation.

Handcrafted in Britain

Every Speedster is hand-built in the UK, reflecting Longbow’s desire to rekindle Britain’s sports car tradition. A fixed-roof Roadster will follow, priced from £64,995 (around €76,500), while the Speedster itself starts at £84,995 (around €100,000). Customer deliveries are due in 2026.

Rethinking Speed

“We didn’t cut corners, we redefined how a car is developed,” said Daniel Davey, co-founder and CEO, during the launch. “Our journey was short, but far from easy. Six months from concept to car — that’s the best proof our philosophy works.”

Lightweight Philosophy, Electric Future

The Speedster arrives at a time when many electric cars are becoming heavy and over-engineered. At 895 kilograms, Longbow’s creation stands firmly against that trend, offering mechanical purity in an era of mass and complexity. If the Lotus Emira and Alpine A110 represent the last of the lightweight petrol sports cars, the Longbow Speedster draws a bold new line — light, electric and unmistakably British.
