Lexus LS Concept Positions Itself Between Luxury and Outer Space
At the Tokyo Japan Mobility Show, Lexus unveiled something far beyond a traditional concept car. The LS Concept is a six-wheeled, futuristic creation that reimagines not only luxury, but gravity itself.
Lexus has redefined the meaning of its flagship’s initials. Once short for Luxury Sedan, LS now stands for Luxury Space, a name that stretches beyond the confines of a cabin and into the metaphorical cosmos. This “space” symbolises both exploration and emotional freedom, an invitation to travel where roads, and perhaps imagination, have no end.
Born from Lunar Inspiration
The idea was sparked by the Lunar Cruiser, a collaborative project between Toyota and Japan’s space agency JAXA, designed for research on the Moon’s surface. The LS Concept brings that cosmic spirit back to Earth, fusing science, art, and audacity into a single visionary vehicle.
A New Design Philosophy
Created under chief designer Simon Humphries and creative director Takeshi Nozoe, the LS Concept embodies Lexus’s next design chapter. The brand’s iconic Spindle Grille evolves into a Spindle Body, where the entire form expresses motion, tension, and purpose. The car’s surfaces act as sculpture, communicating emotion through shape rather than emblem.
Luxury Redefined
With six wheels and a stance that looks part spaceship, part grand tourer, the LS Concept doesn’t look back at history, it looks beyond it. Lexus calls it a gateway to a new era of luxury, where comfort and discovery coexist.
As the brand puts it, confidently and without hesitation: “Discover. Don’t imitate anyone.”
