Lexus GX 2026: Luxury That Looks at Mud and Smiles Back

Lexus has stopped pretending the GX is a city SUV. The 2026 model steps out of the polished car park and heads straight into the dust with the kind of poise that suggests a Burberry coat crossing a mountain stream. With a twin-turbo V6, clever off-road systems and an interior that smells of hand-stitched leather, this is luxury unafraid of scratches.

The new GX doesn’t disguise its rugged character. Lexus kept the old-school ladder frame, but wrapped it in modern technology and fine detailing.

Under the bonnet sits a 3.4-litre twin-turbo V6 producing 349 horsepower and 649 newton-metres of torque. A ten-speed automatic gearbox delivers power smoothly, and the SUV can tow over four tonnes without breaking a sweat.

All GX versions come with permanent four-wheel drive, but the Overtrail trim will likely win the hearts of explorers. With higher ground clearance and a locking rear differential, it ventures well beyond where the tarmac ends. Electronic suspension and cameras that project even the view beneath the car onto a 14-inch screen make wading through mud surprisingly civilised.

Inside, the GX feels like an expedition cabin upholstered by a tailor. The minimalist layout, top-tier materials and smart tech, including cloud-based navigation, a digital key and “Hey Lexus” voice control, create the sense of being both in a tent and in business class.

Safety comes from Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, which can brake automatically, keep the car centred in its lane and even read road signs.

Prices start at 66,935 dollars (around 63,200 euros), and the GX is offered in six trim levels.
