Lexus Reinvents Its Flagship SUV: Glam LX, Car or Rolling Beauty Studio?
Lexus’s American arm has once again taken creative liberties with its flagship LX SUV, and the result is less off-road bruiser and more backstage beauty lounge. Meet the Glam LX, a concept that swaps trail gear for wardrobes, mirrors and a full-blown makeup station.
Picture this: you are hopelessly bogged down in the mountains, wheels buried, waiting for rescue helicopters and chainsaws to arrive. Before you’re mistaken for a scruffy outdoorsman, a friend shows up in a Lexus Glam LX and gives you a makeover worthy of a red carpet entrance. Absurd? Perhaps. But Lexus’s U.S. division seems to think the idea is realistic enough to merit a rolling prototype.
The Glam LX takes the brand’s largest and most prestigious SUV and transforms its rear quarters into a mobile dressing room. The tailgate now opens sideways, revealing a wardrobe rack, shoe shelving and sliding drawers. The inside panels of the doors carry illuminated mirrors, while a retractable privacy screen allows occupants to change clothes discreetly. Even the rear doors have been re-engineered to open in opposite directions, heightening the theatrical effect.
Lexus has fussed over details, too. The glove compartment has been reimagined as a manicure kit holder with a lid that doubles as a small work surface. The rear seat area, in official language, becomes a fully equipped cosmetics salon complete with table, professional-grade lighting and specialized fittings.
Outside, the Glam LX wears its flamboyance proudly. A pearl-effect body wrap is paired with Lexus badges adorned in colorful beads, turning the already imposing SUV into a statement piece on wheels. The one-off will not see showrooms, but Lexus intends to parade it at select public events as a showcase of what the LX platform can be stretched to accommodate.
