Discovery figures that if you already have a family car, you might as well make it a bit more luxurious—and maybe give the impression it could summit Mont Blanc on summer tyres. The result is a refreshed model line and a couple of special editions named Metropolitan and Landmark, which sound like suburban housing projects with a view.

The new flagship, Metropolitan, grabs attention with chrome accents, silver details and dark grey 20-inch wheels. Inside, the seats adjust in more ways than anyone truly needs and the sound system likely has the power to drown out backseat tantrums. An upgraded climate and air purification system promises a cabin that doesn’t smell like a wet dog after a beach day.

The Landmark edition leans into nostalgia, flashing the Discovery logo from 1989 and projecting a mountain silhouette onto the ground when the doors open. Rear-seat passengers can mount tablets and other entertainment essentials before the boredom apocalypse strikes.

The Dynamic S version is all about curb appeal, with a black grille, glossy trim and a sportier stance. As for screens, subtlety is not on the menu—an 11.4-inch central display and a digital instrument cluster ensure the driver has no excuse for boredom, even in traffic.

New accessory packs come with names like Beach Days, Road Trip and Snow Days. Translation: one’s for battling sand, another for cramming in luggage and the last for strapping skis to the roof. Each comes with the expected rubber mats, holders and chilled sparkling water.

Under the hood, you’ll find either a plug-in hybrid or a mild hybrid—the latter offers efficient driving but not too much fun. Electric-only range hovers around 60 kilometres, which is enough to convincingly pretend you care about the planet on urban errands.
