Lamborghini Says No to Full Electric, Out of Respect for Its Fans

While most luxury marques race headlong toward an electric future, Lamborghini is hitting the brakes. Not because it can’t keep up, but because it refuses to betray those who believe in the sacred union of a roaring V12 and the scent of fuel.

Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann revealed in a recent interview that the company has temporarily halted development of a fully electric supercar, admitting that such a move would not be understood or embraced by the brand’s devoted followers. He noted that Lamborghini’s fanbase extends far beyond its customers — a global community of more than seventy million people whose opinions, he said, carry real weight.

This year, the company has repeatedly revisited its plan to turn the Lanzador concept into Lamborghini’s first all-electric grand tourer. The project is now under review, with serious consideration being given to making it a hybrid instead. A final decision on the powertrain is expected within weeks.

Lamborghini, then, continues to invest in passion and sound rather than silent speed. For the marque, the essence of a supercar lies not in figures but in feeling. And so Sant’Agata Bolognese remains, for now, one of the last bastions of petrol-scented defiance in a world that may be moving too quickly to plug in.
