Kia Brings Its Full Electric Arsenal to Munich

Kia returned to the IAA Mobility show in Munich with an all-in display of its electrification push, rolling out concept cars, refreshed production models and even a bold foray into commercial vehicles. The official line is one of “commitment to sustainable mobility,” but the subtext is clear: in a European EV market that grows more crowded by the month, Kia cannot afford to be left behind.

The headline act is the EV5, a C-segment crossover making its European debut, though buyers will have to wait until late 2025. Kia promises up to 530 km of range, 30-minute rapid charging and towing capability—all respectable figures, though hardly shocking by the standards the market will set two years from now.

Alongside it sits the EV2 concept, a compact B-SUV destined for production next year. Here lies the real test: can Kia truly deliver affordability, or will it be yet another “stylish vision” with a price tag that drifts upward? The EV3 and EV4 flesh out the mid-range, while the EV6 GT and EV9 GT carry the performance flag, boasting up to 650 horsepower and 0–100 km/h in 3.5 seconds—attention-grabbing numbers, if only for a niche audience.

Perhaps the most unexpected reveal is the PV5, a modular electric van pitched as both family hauler and workhorse. Its “building-block” architecture sounds futuristic, but whether it can prove practical remains an open question.

The stand itself is textbook Kia: mirrored pillars, the “Opposites United” design philosophy and the slogan “Movement that Inspires.” Behind the polished façade lies a simple message—that Kia intends to be taken seriously in the EV race.

Munich’s outdoor pavilion runs until September 14, with test drives available. For many visitors, those drives will say far more than any of the slogans etched onto the walls.
