New Kia Seltos grows in size, sharpens its look and sets its sights on hybrid power

The latest Kia Seltos enters a new generation with a far more self assured stance. The compact crossover now stretches to 4430 millimetres with a wheelbase of 2690 millimetres, which nudges it onto the toes of the larger Sportage. The boot expands to 536 litres and rear passengers gain a little extra breathing room. Sales begin next year across Europe, the United States and India.

The core line up keeps a two litre petrol engine with 149 horsepower and a 1.6 litre turbocharged unit with either 180 or 193 horsepower. Depending on the market, buyers can choose a six speed manual, a seven speed dual clutch or an eight speed automatic. All wheel drive remains on the options list. A hybrid arrives only in 2026, although Kia promises more efficient energy recuperation and notably more frugal behaviour in city driving.

The exterior blends the vertical light signatures seen on the EV series with the more muscular proportions of Kia’s larger SUVs. The standard model is joined by the sport themed GT Line and the tougher looking X Line. Inside, the cabin features a pair of 12.3 inch screens, Kia’s familiar digital architecture and a neatly organised climate panel. The options catalogue includes a panoramic roof, ambient lighting and premium audio systems.

The Seltos moves into a class where several rivals are quietly shrinking, yet Kia chooses to increase size and broaden the technological offer. This approach places the new generation in a favourable position. It balances the flexibility of the compact segment with the comfort associated with larger crossovers. At the moment the market welcomes these middle ground players with surprising enthusiasm.
