Jaguar reveals the Type 01 interior

Jaguar has released the first official images of the Type 01 interior, revealing how much of the radical cabin architecture from the Type 00 concept will make it into production. The four-door electric GT is a pivotal model in Jaguar's reinvention: with more than 735 kW from three electric motors and the all-new JEA electric architecture, it is heading straight into Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT territory in Europe.

Much of the Type 00 concept makes it into production

Jaguar has now officially revealed the Type 01 interior, with a longitudinal central spine running the full length of the cabin as its defining feature. It divides the interior into four individual spaces while emphasising the car's long proportions. This is more than a styling cue borrowed from the concept: Jaguar itself describes the layout as a “concept car vision brought to production”.

The Type 00 concept unveiled in 2024 featured three hand-finished brass lines running through the cabin. The central one formed a 3.2-metre spine that split a pair of floating instrument panels. Type 01 recreates that architectural effect in a more production-ready form, with a brass-inspired finish on the central spine repeated along the tops of the doors. Jaguar's leaper emblem appears on these signature elements.

The material treatment follows the direction established by Type 00. The tonal palette draws inspiration from travertine — a porous form of limestone created by calcium-carbonate deposits from mineral-rich water — and is complemented by richly textured artisan textiles. The distinction between material and inspiration matters: for Type 01, Jaguar talks about travertine-inspired tones and a brass-inspired finish, rather than suggesting that the production car will make extensive use of solid stone and brass.

A low driving position is intended to make the electric GT feel like a true Jaguar

The Type 01 places its driver low in the car, with the cabin wrapping closely around the seating position. That fits Jaguar's aim of giving the new EV the low-slung feel of a traditional grand tourer. Its long bonnet and low roofline deliberately echo the proportions of earlier Jaguars. During development, engineers drove the XK120, E-type, XJ Coupé V12, XJS and XJ Series I to identify the qualities they wanted the new GT to retain.

Instead of a conventional rear-view mirror mounted high on the windscreen, the Type 01 uses a digital ClearSight Rear View Display. Jaguar positions it centrally at the base of the windscreen, at the same height as the door mirrors, reducing how far the driver's eyes need to move. The dashboard itself remains slim, while digital interfaces are integrated into the cabin architecture rather than allowed to dominate it.

Jaguar also makes use of concealed storage and technology that remains hidden until needed. It continues the philosophy established by Type 00: technology should enhance the luxury experience rather than turn the entire cabin into a collection of large screens.

Three motors push output beyond 735 kW

Type 01 is built on Jaguar Electric Architecture, or JEA, a dedicated EV platform developed specifically for the brand. Its tri-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain produces more than 1,000 PS — over 735 kW — and more than 1,300 Nm of torque. Intelligent Torque Vectoring and embedded powertrain software distribute power where it is needed, with Jaguar saying the system can respond in as little as one millisecond.

The chassis uses dynamic air suspension and active twin-valve dampers, while Jaguar has also confirmed all-wheel steering during winter testing. The aim is to combine the long-distance comfort expected of a large GT with fast, precise responses when the road turns interesting.

On paper, that output puts the Type 01 firmly among Europe's most powerful electric GTs. The Audi RS e-tron GT performance produces 550 kW in its regular configuration and up to 680 kW with Launch Control, while its WLTP range spans 533 to 592 km depending on specification. The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT produces 580 kW continuously, rising to 760 kW with Launch Control and, for a maximum of two seconds, a peak of 815 kW. Maximum torque is 1,240 Nm, while the current Taycan Turbo GT is rated at 540–559 km of WLTP range.

That puts Jaguar in broadly the same performance bracket on the figures published so far, but it is too early to draw a direct ranking. Jaguar's published material does not yet specify whether the Type 01's quoted output of more than 735 kW is continuously available system power, a launch-mode figure or a short-duration peak. Audi and Porsche distinguish between these figures, so a genuinely like-for-like comparison will have to wait until Jaguar publishes the full technical specification.

770 km remains a target, not a confirmed Type 01 range figure

When Type 00 was unveiled in 2024, Jaguar said the four-door production GT it previewed was targeting up to 770 km of WLTP range. In the same announcement, the company said rapid charging could add up to 321 km of range in as little as 15 minutes. Those figures were development targets for the future JEA-based production car. As of 12 August 2026, Jaguar has not published the Type 01's final usable battery capacity, maximum charging rate or homologated WLTP range, so 770 km should not yet be treated as an official production figure.

If Type 01 gets close to that target, its WLTP range would comfortably exceed that of the current Audi RS e-tron GT performance and Porsche Taycan Turbo GT. That would not automatically make it the better long-distance car, however: real-world journey times also depend on peak charging power, the charging curve and energy consumption at sustained motorway speeds.

Type 01 has to prove Jaguar's reinvention in Europe

The importance of Type 01 extends well beyond a single model. It will be the first production Jaguar built on JEA, and Jaguar says its design philosophy, technology and driving dynamics will underpin future models.

Competition in Europe will be formidable. Porsche has spent years refining the electric performance-GT formula with the Taycan, while Audi's e-tron GT pursues the same basic brief with a different character. Jaguar therefore needs more than headline power figures.

Its strongest weapon may be its willingness to take a different approach. Type 01 does not try to disguise an EV as a conventional saloon. Instead, JEA is used to create an exceptionally long bonnet, a low roofline and a cabin architecture dominated by strong longitudinal forms. The first official interior images make one thing clear: despite all the attention generated by Type 00, Jaguar has not backed away from its new design direction.

The car's next public appearance will come during Monterey Car Week. A Type 01 prototype will appear at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on 16 August with a new camouflage wrap and its newly revealed interior on show. The exterior will remain disguised. The fully revealed Type 01 will make its debut in New York on 6 October 2026.
