Gunther Werks Has More Faith in Its Craft Than Porsche Itself

California-based tuning atelier Gunther Werks has once again shown that its bond with classic Porsches goes far beyond restoration. Following the completion of the final example of its legendary 911 (993) Speedster, the company announced a bold move: all its cars will now come with a five-year or 160,000-kilometre warranty.

For comparison, Porsche’s own factory warranty in the United States covers four years or 80,000 kilometres. Gunther Werks, it seems, believes in its craftsmanship even more than Stuttgart does.

Confidence Cast in Carbon and Aluminium

Founder Peter Nam explained that the decision stems from absolute confidence in the firm’s engineering and build quality. In a remarkable gesture, the new warranty also applies retroactively to all Gunther Werks cars already delivered to customers.

The Gunther Werks Speedster is based on the Porsche 911 (993), the final air-cooled generation. The atelier reimagined it as a roofless sculpture of precision and passion. Each car features a fully reengineered body, hand-built interior, and a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six tuned to produce more than 440 horsepower. Adaptive suspension brings modern accuracy to a chassis rooted in 1990s character.

Only 25 examples were built, each costing at least $850,000 (around €795,000). First shown in 2021, the Speedster sold out before production even ended — a testament to Gunther Werks’ cult following among Porsche purists.

When Small Workshops Dare More Than Giants

Gunther Werks’ decision highlights a quiet shift in the automotive world. Small, obsessive workshops can now offer guarantees that big manufacturers hesitate to match. Where Porsche measures trust in numbers, Gunther Werks measures it in handcrafted precision and accountability.

This extended warranty is more than a customer promise; it’s a statement of belief. True luxury, Gunther Werks suggests, isn’t defined by price or exclusivity, but by the willingness to stand behind every detail — indefinitely if need be.
