Genesis’ first fully electric performance model, the GV60 Magma, has wrapped up its final trials and is now gearing up for a world premiere later this year, coinciding with the brand’s 10th anniversary celebrations. Tested across ice, desert, mountains and racetracks, the car signals Genesis’ intent to step into the arena dominated by Porsche, BMW M and Mercedes-AMG.

The testing programme took the GV60 Magma to four corners of the globe. It began in Arjeplog, Sweden, where chassis and braking behaviour were evaluated on frozen surfaces. In California’s desert heat, the focus shifted to cooling systems and battery thermal management. New Zealand’s 1,500-metre mountain roads provided the proving ground for suspension and traction calibration. The final stage saw engineers push the prototype around Korea’s Inje Speedium, fine-tuning the balance between track performance and everyday comfort.

The GV60 Magma represents Genesis’ first step into its forthcoming “Magma” line, conceived to fuse luxury with genuine sporting credentials. The company promises strong acceleration and precise handling, while preserving the refinement and comfort central to its brand identity. Concrete specifications such as battery capacity, power output or acceleration times have yet to be disclosed.

Genesis has been present in Europe since 2021, positioned as Hyundai Motor Group’s luxury division. With the GV60 Magma, the marque aims to elevate its profile, signalling both a brand-building exercise and a serious attempt to join the exclusive club of performance luxury players.
