Super Mustang Mach-E: Ford’s 1400-Horsepower Electric Beast Takes on Pikes Peak
Ford is hurling its latest monster straight into the clouds—up Pikes Peak, where every corner has the potential to be your last. The Super Mustang Mach-E clamps itself to the tarmac with an astonishing three tonnes of downforce, more than the curb weight of most cars. With 1,400 horsepower, three six-phase electric motors and a regenerative braking system capable of absorbing 710 kilowatts, this isn’t just an EV. It’s a masterwork of energy manipulation, measured in kilojoules and cold sweat.
The machine is a full 113 kilos lighter than last year’s winner, the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck. At the helm is Romain Dumas, a man well-versed in navigating the fine edge between physics and fear.
Built in collaboration with Austrian rally outfit STARD, the car is an unholy fusion of science and savagery. Its 799-volt, 50 kWh battery isn’t especially large, but it can recharge with the immediacy of a heartbeat before a death-defying plunge.
What truly makes this Super Mustang a creature of menace, though, is its aerodynamics. Even at the thinning-air summit of Pikes Peak, it remains pinned to the asphalt. At 240 km/h, it generates more grip than any Ford beast before it.
