Ferrari HC25 is a unique V8 roadster based on the F8 Spider
Ferrari revealed the HC25, a new one off roadster created through its Special Projects programme for a single client. The car uses the discontinued Ferrari F8 Spider as its technical base, but wears an entirely new body and keeps the non hybrid 3.9 litre twin turbo V8.
F8 Spider engineering, new bodywork
The HC25 belongs to Ferrari’s One Off series, which means this is not a limited edition model, but a car built for one customer only. Ferrari says the HC25 uses the architecture of the F8 Spider, while reinterpreting the form of its open top V8 sports cars.
Compared with the standard F8 Spider, the HC25 is 147 millimetres longer, 27 millimetres wider and 23 millimetres lower. The design is defined by matt grey bodywork, gloss black details and an aluminium element along the side, which also serves as the door handle.
The last of the old school Ferrari V8 breed
Mechanically, the HC25 stays close to the F8 Spider. Power comes from a 3.9 litre twin turbo V8 producing 530 kW, or 720 metric hp, and 770 Nm of torque. The engine works through a seven speed double clutch gearbox and sends power to the rear wheels.
Ferrari quotes 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 340 km/h. In other words, the HC25 may look like an art object for a private collection, but underneath it remains a very serious Ferrari.
Design that looks towards the next Ferrari era
The HC25 does not feel like a retro exercise. Its front end and lighting point towards Ferrari’s newer design language, seen in cars such as the 12Cilindri and F80. Car and Driver notes the use of narrow headlights and a black body band that visually separates the front and rear sections of the car.
Inside, the basic structure remains close to the F8 Spider, but Ferrari added yellow details, specially finished seats and bespoke materials. As usual with Ferrari Special Projects cars, the price stays private.
A collector’s car, not a new model direction
The importance of the HC25 lies less in volume and more in symbolism. With this car, Ferrari closes one chapter. Based on the F8 Spider, the HC25 keeps the idea of a non hybrid, open top, V8 Ferrari alive for one last private moment, just as the company’s main model range moves deeper into hybrids and next generation powertrains.
The key point is simple. The Ferrari HC25 is not a production model and it is not a direct successor to the F8 Spider. It is a demonstration of what Maranello can still do for its wealthiest clients, old school in its engine, but already looking towards Ferrari’s next design age.
