EU New-Car Market Surges
The European Union’s new passenger-car market posted strong growth in June, led by battery-electric vehicles. BEV registrations rose by 60.7% year on year, outpacing every other major powertrain category.
A total of 1,147,962 new passenger cars were registered across the EU in June, up 13.6% from the same month in 2025. First-half registrations reached 5,896,683 units, an increase of 5.7% year on year.
Electrified Cars Gain Ground as Petrol and Diesel Decline
Electrified powertrains continued to gain momentum, while registrations of petrol- and diesel-powered cars fell:
Battery-electric cars: Registrations climbed by 60.7% year on year to 270,557 units, giving BEVs a 23.6% share of the June market.
Plug-in hybrids: Registrations rose by 22.1% to 115,714 units, representing 10.1% of the market.
Hybrid-electric cars: Registrations increased by 18.4% to 404,608 units, accounting for 35.2% of the market. This category includes full and mild hybrids.
Petrol cars: Registrations fell by 12.4%.
Diesel cars: Registrations declined by 16.1%.
The EU’s Largest Markets Drive June Growth
The increase in registrations was led by the EU’s four largest car markets:
Germany: +15.7%
France: +11.4%
Italy: +10.6%
Spain: +7.8%
