Dubai’s Lotus Emeya: Crime-Fighter or Instagram Influencer?

In a city where excess is standard issue and logic often takes a backseat to spectacle, Dubai Police have just added the Lotus Emeya to their already absurd motor pool. Not a Skoda. Not a bulked-up Ford Explorer. This is a full-bore electric super-sedan with 612 horsepower, capable of hitting 100 km/h in 4.15 seconds. But before you start imagining desert chases at sunset, cool your turbochargers—this car isn’t here to catch criminals. It’s here to catch eyes.

Yes, the Emeya’s actual assignment is public relations. Stationed beside skyscrapers and mega-malls, its job is simple: look good, pose well, and make tourists believe that Dubai is patrolled by superheroes with impeccable taste in EVs.

To be fair, the Emeya is a stunner. Twin motors. 710 Nm of torque. A top speed of 249 km/h. And thanks to a 102 kWh battery (98.9 kWh usable) and 350 kW charging capacity, you could theoretically order a coffee and be 100 km away before your name is called.

But this is Dubai, after all, where “police cruiser” can mean anything from a Bentley Continental to a Bugatti Veyron. Emeya joins a badge-wearing garage that already includes the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and electric Lotus Eletre. It’s the only city in the world where you might be politely asked about your shirt by an officer whose ride could beat you at Le Mans.

The logic of it all? There isn’t any. But logic doesn’t shine in the desert sun. Chrome and carbon fiber do. And in a city built for spectacle, the Emeya fits in perfectly—not as a pursuit vehicle, but as the latest chapter in a never-ending, high-octane photo op.
