DS 3 E-Tense: Big Promises from a Petite Electric Urbanite
DS Automobiles is pitching its compact electric crossover, the DS 3 E-Tense, as a refined, comfortable, and tech-forward urban companion. Built on a familiar Stellantis electric platform, it’s essentially a premium spin with flashier trim and a hint of Formula E gloss.
The car claims a 404 km WLTP range and up to 575 km in urban conditions—figures we've already seen from other models using the same architecture.
DS highlights features like regenerative braking, an E-Save function, and an eco driving mode, all aimed at squeezing out extra kilometers. “Ultra-fast charging”—a full charge in 30 minutes—translates to a 100 kW ceiling, which is hardly groundbreaking in a segment where 150–200+ kW is becoming standard.
Driving tips such as smooth acceleration, minimal braking, low A/C use, and careful route planning are less technological marvels than reminders that efficiency still depends largely on the driver’s restraint. To hit those optimistic range claims, a touch of electric-era asceticism is still required.
With a starting price of €33,046, the DS 3 E-Tense doesn’t come cheap. What you get for that is a small EV dressed in boutique luxury, but underneath it all lies tech that’s already familiar from significantly more affordable Stellantis offerings.
