Citroën Joins Formula E: French Brand Enters Electric Single-Seater Arena
Citroën will join the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship next season, marking the first time the French manufacturer enters the series as a full factory team. For a brand with a storied motorsport pedigree, the move signals both a nod to its past and a commitment to an electric future.
Long renowned for its triumphs in rallying and off-road competition, Citroën is now turning its attention to all-electric racing. The decision to enter Formula E reflects a desire to blend its engineering heritage with cutting-edge EV technology. With rivals such as Porsche, Jaguar, and Nissan already established in the paddock, Citroën’s entry feels less like an experiment and more like a necessity.
The 2025–26 Formula E season kicks off on December 5 in São Paulo, with an 18-race calendar that includes marquee stops in London, Tokyo, and Shanghai.
Over the past decade, Formula E has attracted a roster of former Formula 1 drivers—among them Felipe Massa, Nelson Piquet Jr, Nick Heidfeld, Jarno Trulli, and Jacques Villeneuve. Last season’s championship went to Britain’s Oliver Rowland.
Citroën’s arrival is expected to inject fresh energy into the series and underscores a broader industry truth: even the most traditional automakers can no longer afford to ignore the electric future.
