Citroën Launches New C5 Aircross: Bigger, Softer, and Still Playing It Safe
Citroën has opened orders across Europe for the latest C5 Aircross, promising “more space, comfort, and technology” wrapped in a fully electrified lineup. This midsize SUV follows the Stellantis playbook to the letter, sharing underpinnings with the Peugeot 3008, Opel Grandland, and Lancia Gamma via the STLA Medium platform.
At launch, buyers get two choices: a 145-horsepower hybrid starting at €29,690, and a 210-horsepower all-electric ë-C5 Aircross from €39,490. A plug-in hybrid and a 230-horsepower “Extended Range” electric variant with up to 680 km of range are slated for 2026—but for now, it’s either a conventional hybrid or a technically unremarkable EV.
True to Citroën’s identity, comfort takes center stage: Advanced Comfort® suspension, sofa-like seats, a Waterfall Display embedded in the center console, and a new head-up display are all meant to turn the car into a “lounge on wheels.” While rivals chase sharper handling and peak efficiency, Citroën remains committed to plushness and visual calm.
Matrix LED headlights and Drive Assist 2.0 are included, though these are now par for the course in the C-segment. The brand also touts its use of sustainable materials—160 kg of recycled metals and 47 kg of green plastics—but again, this is no longer groundbreaking among European automakers.
At 4.65 meters long—15 cm more than its predecessor—the new C5 Aircross is undeniably larger, roomier, and softer. But revolutionary? Not quite. It’s a smooth, visually gentle choice for those who want their compact SUV from Stellantis’ sprawling catalog and are willing to pay a little extra for the feeling of a cushioned ride.
