Corvette Tries to Stop the Planet from Spinning
Chevrolet is clearly not thinking small. The new Corvette ZR1 didn’t just show up with a redesigned steering wheel or a slightly reworked “Corvette” badge slapped onto the rear. No, this time they’ve gone for something altogether more ludicrous. Apparently, six pistons in the front brake calipers just weren’t enough. So now... there are ten. Yes, ten. If you’ve ever doubted that braking could be a life-altering experience, now’s the time to reconsider.
And of course, it doesn’t end there. At the back? Not the usual timid four-piston calipers—no, no. There are six pistons clamping down with enough force to make the laws of time consider taking a break. The new ZR1 doesn’t just slow down; it grabs the Earth’s rotation by the collar and tells it to sit still.
But naturally, all of this insanity comes at a cost. Enter the ZTK Track Performance package—an optional bundle of madness that adds sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tyres, a track-tuned suspension, and aerodynamic bits sharp enough to slice a loaf of bread. All that for an extra $10,000. And still, the whole car—with a staggering 1,079 horsepower and 1,123 Nm of torque—comes in at under $200,000. In today’s world of Ferraris and Lambos priced like yachts, that’s practically a Black Friday deal.
Of course, don’t rush off to place an order just yet. GM’s configurator is currently either broken, hidden in a bunker, or having an existential crisis. The ZTK package? Nowhere to be found. Even the Corvette Z06 is suffering from some deeply awkward equipment restrictions. But fret not—they say things will be back online by summer, and when that happens, this hot-blooded American monster will finally be unleashed onto the track.
