Capricorn 01 Zagato: Three Million Euros of Pure Driving Poetry
In an era when most supercars are rolling computers, the new Capricorn 01 Zagato celebrates something far rarer — a visceral, mechanical purity crafted by engineers, not algorithms.
German company Capricorn, long known for supplying precision components to Formula and endurance racing teams, has stepped out from behind the pit wall to build a machine of its own. The result is the Capricorn 01 Zagato — a brutally mechanical, consciously analog grand tourer of which only nineteen examples will ever exist. The price of admission begins at three million euros.
At its core lies a carbon-fiber monocoque, an exhibition of lightness and rigidity in equal measure. The bodywork too is entirely carbon, while the suspension employs a double-wishbone setup with components from Bilstein. Braking comes courtesy of Brembo discs, and the car rolls on 21-inch wheels available in lightweight alloy or carbon fiber.
Under the sculpted bonnet beats a 5.2-liter twin-turbo Ford V8, tuned to an astonishing 900 horsepower and 1127 newton-meters of torque. Power is delivered through a five-speed manual gearbox built by Cima, the same specialist that supplies Koenigsegg and Pagani. Despite its muscle, the car weighs just 1227 kilograms, enabling a claimed top speed of around 350 kilometers per hour.
Design duties fell to the legendary Zagato, which resisted the modern obsession with excessive aerodynamics. There are no oversized wings or ostentatious diffusers — the body’s form itself provides downforce. The gullwing doors nod to a golden age when supercars were both elegant and theatrical.
Inside, it’s a time capsule. There are no screens, no digital distractions — only mechanical switches, rotary dials, and beautifully crafted analog instruments. The seats are fixed, but the steering column, pedal box, and even the gear lever — with a precise 75-millimeter throw — can be adjusted to fit the driver perfectly.
To preserve the purity of feel, the power steering assists only at parking speeds and fades away as the pace rises. Electronic aids exist but are tuned with a single philosophy: the driver always has the final say.
The result is mechanical poetry — a car that doesn’t merely transport you but demands skill, engagement, and respect. The name “01 Zagato” honors the storied Italian design house, while the intent behind it signals Capricorn’s ambition. This is not a one-off experiment. The company says it can produce up to 200 bespoke cars a year — each one a celebration of motion in its most human form.
