BYD Promises Sci-Fi Ranges: New SEAL 6 DM-i Claimed to Travel up to 1,505 km
Sized on the edge of the D-segment (4,840 × 1,875 × 1,495 mm with a 2,790 mm wheelbase), the newcomer will be offered as a sedan and, for the first time in BYD’s European lineup, a wagon dubbed the SEAL 6 DM-i Touring. Both are front-wheel drive and use BYD’s LFP Blade Battery in two configurations:
Boost: 10.08 kWh, system output 135 kW, 0–100 km/h in 8.9 seconds, WLTP electric range 55 km (50 km Touring), combined up to 1,505 km (1,350 km Touring).
Comfort / Comfort Lite: 19 kWh, 156 kW, 0–100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, electric range 105 km (100 km Touring), combined up to 1,455 km.
At the heart sits a 1.5-liter petrol engine (BYD “Xiaoyun,” with a claimed 43% thermal efficiency) that primarily acts as a generator, shifting to parallel drive under heavier loads. Charging capability is modest: AC at 6.6 kW (3.3 kW on Boost) and DC fast charging limited to 26 kW (Comfort versions only). Vehicle-to-load functionality at 3.3 kW is standard.
The cabin promises seating for five adults, BYD’s trademark rotating display (12.8 or 15.6 inches), a full suite of driver assists and, in the Touring, up to 1,535 liters of cargo capacity with the seats folded.
That headline 1,505 km figure represents the sum of a full battery and a full tank under WLTP methodology – classic plug-in hybrid marketing rather than an EV endurance record. The 105 km electric range from the larger 19 kWh battery is respectable, but the 26 kW DC charging speed is too slow for convenient top-ups on longer trips. In city use, the car thrives as an EV; on the open road, the petrol engine takes over seamlessly.
With front-wheel drive and a curb weight around 1.8 tonnes, performance remains reasonable at under nine seconds to 100 km/h. The sedan plays the sporty silhouette card, while the Touring adds day-to-day pragmatism.
Pricing, market-specific trims, warranty details and running costs remain undisclosed. For now, BYD’s SEAL 6 DM-i is pitched squarely at corporate fleets and private buyers who want electric commuting and effortless long-distance travel without range anxiety.
