BMW Vision Driving Experience – The Electric M3 in the Making?
BMW has unveiled details of the Vision Driving Experience prototype, an advanced test platform designed to shape the future of Neue Klasse electric models. While this concept car won’t enter mass production, it plays a crucial role in developing next-generation electric drivetrains, handling, and driving dynamics.
At the heart of this prototype is the revolutionary Heart of Joy system, a tenfold faster control unit that integrates traction management, regenerative braking, charging control, and dynamic steering. Powered by BMW Dynamic Performance Control, the system ensures real-time adjustments for a smoother, more precise driving experience.
Revolutionary Braking and Performance
One of its most groundbreaking features is the near-complete elimination of traditional braking. In 98% of driving situations, regenerative braking is sufficient, boosting efficiency by up to 25%, while conventional friction brakes are only used for emergency stops.
The Vision Driving Experience also boasts an astonishing 18,000 Nm of torque, demonstrating the system’s capability to handle extreme power surges while maintaining stability and control in everyday driving.
Intelligent Feedback and Advanced Computing
The test vehicle features innovative wheel-based visual feedback, where different colors indicate various driving functions:
Green – Acceleration
Blue – Energy recuperation
Orange – Friction braking
The Neue Klasse models will integrate four intelligent computing units, merging previously separate systems:
Heart of Joy – Driving dynamics and electric propulsion
Autonomous and highly automated driving
Infotainment and smart connectivity
Core vehicle functions – Climate control, lighting, and access
By synchronizing these systems, BMW is setting a new benchmark in intelligent and dynamic vehicle control.
Official Debut at Auto Shanghai 2025
The BMW Vision Driving Experience will make its world premiere at the Auto Shanghai 2025 motor show, offering a glimpse into the future of high-performance electric driving.
