BMW Revives the “Helmet-Free Freedom” Idea: Vision CE Promises Plenty, But Leaves Questions Hanging
The Vision CE is less a conventional scooter than a rolling sculpture. Its low-slung frame, exposed aluminum elements and sharp red accents give it the aura of a futuristic art piece. BMW says it even features self-balancing technology, allowing it to remain upright when stationary.
The company describes it as a “new sense of freedom for the city,” stripping away the inconvenience of helmets and heavy riding apparel. Yet the obvious question remains: how much of this is genuine engineering ambition, and how much is simply a stylized homage to the ill-fated C1 – a machine that, despite its integrated roll cage and helmet exemption, failed to gain lasting traction in the early 2000s?
Hard numbers are conspicuously absent. BMW has revealed nothing about power output, battery size or range, choosing instead to focus on design and emotional appeal. For now, the Vision CE exists only on paper and under the lights of a motor show stand. Whether it will ever make the leap from concept to city streets remains an open question.
