BMW’s R 12 nineT “The Tracker” Kit: Flat Track Style Without the Dirt

BMW Motorrad has unveiled a new accessory package for its R 12 nineT, dubbed The Tracker, promising a dash of flat track racing flavor for the street. In reality, the formula is more cosmetic than mechanical—factory-approved attitude rather than true competition grit.

The kit brings together familiar styling cues long favored by aftermarket tuners: a shortened tail section finished in black with integrated plate holder, a small front cowl, a 17-inch wheel mudguard, and, of course, a set of “The Tracker” decals. Every piece is available individually, though the full bundle carries BMW’s official stamp of approval. Absent from the package are the tires or the bold number 35 shown in press photos—those, BMW insists, are up to the rider’s personal expression.

While the marketing copy leans heavily on “flat track dynamics,” the hardware does nothing to alter handling or engine character. It is, unapologetically, a styling exercise, giving the R 12 nineT a tougher, race-inspired look without crossing into true performance territory. Those craving more than visual impact will still need to turn to custom workshops for deeper transformation.

The upsides are pragmatic. The kit is fully homologated, meaning buyers won’t face headaches with TÜV inspections or registration. Installation is recommended at official dealerships, which ensures warranty coverage but inevitably adds to the bottom line.

In essence, BMW is offering a safe rebellion: a road bike that wears its flat track costume with confidence, delivering the aesthetic thrill of the oval without any of the dust, danger, or dirt.
