Audi brings back the A2 name with a new compact electric car
The Audi A2 e tron will be unveiled in autumn 2026, and it is set to become the new entry point to the brand’s electric range. Audi said the compact electric car will be built in Ingolstadt, widening the company’s line up towards smaller EVs.
The A2 name returns after a long pause
Audi is reviving the A2 name deliberately, drawing a line back to the original model from more than 25 years ago, a car the company still associates with efficiency and urban mobility. The first A2 appeared in the early 2000s, but sales fell well short of expectations.
Technical details remain under wraps
For now, the official material stretches to little more than a single design sketch. Audi confirmed the name, the production site and the launch window, but left the technical figures, range and pricing for later.
Audi expands its electric line up from the bottom up
The A2 e tron sits at the heart of Audi’s 2026 product push alongside the larger Q9. The company says the move reflects growing demand for compact electric cars, particularly in Europe’s larger cities, where buyers are not always looking for yet another bulky SUV.
The A2 e tron suggests Audi wants to bring its electric range closer to customers who do not want a large and expensive crossover. Whether it becomes a genuine sales driver or merely another elegant nod to the past will only become clear when Audi finally starts talking about the substance, not just the name.
